Our Story

SunPower Corporation

SunPower, a global energy company with an extensive dealer network across the country, is recognized as a leader in the solar energy industry. With a strong presence in the Tucson AZ and Phoenix AZ areas, we are proud to be one of the dealer networks serving these regions. SunPower delivers unparalleled solar solutions, surpassing industry standards with groundbreaking technology and a steadfast commitment to sustainability. This page chronicles the remarkable journey of SunPower, from its humble beginnings to its current position as a frontrunner in the solar energy sector.

1985: Foundation and Early Years

SunPower Corporation was established in 1985 by Dr. Richard Swanson, a professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University. With a vision of harnessing the power of the sun to create clean, sustainable energy, SunPower started as a research project in Swanson's lab. The company was initially focused on creating high-efficiency solar cells for space applications.

1990s: Expansion and Technology Development

In the 1990s, SunPower expanded its operations to cater to the terrestrial market. During this period, the company perfected its Maxeon® solar cell technology, a revolutionary design that significantly increased solar cell efficiency. Maxeon® cells allowed SunPower to gain a competitive edge in the market, setting the stage for the company's future growth.

2000s: IPO and Market Domination

SunPower went public in 2005, and its stock was listed on the NASDAQ. The funds raised from the IPO allowed the company to further invest in research and development, leading to the creation of even more efficient solar panels. By 2007, SunPower had installed more than 100 megawatts of solar power around the world. The company also pioneered the concept of solar leasing, making solar power more accessible to homeowners.

2010s: Continuous Innovation and Growth

During this decade, SunPower continued to innovate, introducing a range of new products and services. In 2011, the company launched the world's first 400-watt solar panel, further reinforcing its position as a leader in the industry. By 2015, SunPower had installed solar power systems in more than 100 countries.

In 2018, SunPower split its business into two entities. The company continued to manufacture solar panels and systems, while the newly formed SunPower Technologies took over the research and development of new technologies.

2020s: Focus on Sustainability and Future Goals

The 2020s brought a renewed focus on sustainability, and SunPower was at the forefront of this shift. The company pledged to become carbon neutral by 2021 and has been working tirelessly towards this goal. SunPower also launched a series of initiatives to promote the use of renewable energy and reduce the world's dependence on fossil fuels.

Today, SunPower continues to lead the industry, developing innovative, high-efficiency solar solutions for residential, commercial, and utility-scale power plant customers. With an unwavering commitment to sustainability, the company is dedicated to changing the way our world is powered.

As we look to the future, we remain focused on our mission to deliver reliable and affordable clean energy solutions. We are committed to creating a sustainable future for our planet, guided by our belief in the power of the sun.
